ISLAND SPORT & PERFORMANCE · SPORTS SCIENCE
At Island Sport & Performance, we use sports science to make training more individual, more purposeful and easier to measure. Assess where you are now, understand the demands of your sport and build a targeted plan around what actually matters.
HOW WE USE SCIENCE
Sports science is not about collecting data for the sake of it. It is about using the right information to make better decisions.
We combine what we see in training with relevant testing, athlete feedback, sport demands and coaching experience. This gives us a clearer picture of what an athlete needs most, whether that is strength, power, speed, fitness, movement quality, capacity, recovery or better management of training load.
OUR PROCESS
Relevant testing, movement observation, training history and athlete goals create a useful starting point.
Consider the specific physical, technical and competition demands of the athlete's sport.
Build a structured training and performance plan around the athlete, season and goals.
Deliver strength, conditioning, movement and performance work aligned to the athlete's needs.
Track key training responses, progress, recovery and athlete feedback.
Re-test, interpret results and use that information to shape the next stage of training.
WHAT WE ASSESS
Not every athlete needs every test. We select practical assessments based on the athlete's sport, training age, goals, equipment and stage of the season.
FROM DATA TO ACTION
We translate testing and monitoring into practical coaching decisions. The aim is not to chase one “perfect” score. It is to understand the athlete, track meaningful change and keep training aligned with the demands of their sport.
INTEGRATED PERFORMANCE SUPPORT
Island Sport & Performance brings multiple services together so an athlete's plan is not built in isolation.
Develop the physical foundations that support sport performance: strength, power, speed, movement capacity, conditioning and resilience.
Establish benchmarks, monitor meaningful progress and use results to inform the next training phase.
Turn performance information into a realistic training plan that fits the athlete's sport, schedule, experience and goals.
Connect assessment, rehabilitation, physical preparation and a confident return to training when injury or pain is part of the picture.
Consider training stress, lifestyle demands, athlete feedback and readiness so the athlete can train consistently and respond well over time.
BUILT AROUND YOUR SPORT
A program for a motocross rider should not look exactly like a program for a field athlete, endurance athlete, team-sport player or strength-based athlete.
For motocross and freestyle riders, a plan may consider the physical demands of gripping, upper-body and trunk endurance, lower-body strength and power, neck, shoulder and hip capacity, aerobic and repeat-effort conditioning, movement and impact tolerance, mobility, recovery, travel and the race schedule.
We use the same principle across every sport: understand the demands first, then build training that gives the athlete the best chance to meet them.
WHO IT IS FOR
OUR APPROACH
Built around the person, sport, goals and training history.
Focused on measures that affect meaningful performance.
Guided by current knowledge, sound testing practice and real-world coaching experience.
Information should lead to an action, not just a report.
Athlete, coach, practitioner and support team working toward the same outcome.
Reviewed and adapted as the athlete develops.
